What Happens at a Free In-Home Flooring Estimate

Calling a flooring company can feel like signing up for a sales pitch. It shouldn't. A free in-home estimate at Affordable Flooring & More is a measuring visit with someone who knows floors, and it comes with no obligation. Here's how it goes, what to have ready, and what happens after the tape measure goes back in the pouch.

Getting on the calendar

Start with a call to (702) 658-6008 or a message through the contact page. We complete most estimates within 2 to 3 business days of your first contact. If you'd rather look at products first, the showroom at 6535 N Buffalo Dr, Suite 110 is open Monday through Friday from 10 to 5 and Saturday from 9 to 1, and walk-ins are welcome. After-hours visits are available by appointment, and holiday hours can vary.

We can also come to you with our mobile showroom. That helps when you want to hold samples next to your own cabinets, walls and window light instead of trying to imagine them from a showroom shelf.

Who shows up

Mike Buchanan, our estimator, handles the in-home visits. He has spent decades in the flooring industry, and measuring is what he does all day. He'll walk the rooms with you, listen to what bothers you about your current floor, and ask how you use each space. You can talk with us in English or Spanish, whichever is more comfortable for you.

What gets measured

Measuring sounds simple until you meet an L-shaped living room, a closet with a jog in it, or a staircase. Good measurements account for the whole job: the main rooms, closets, hallways, the transitions where one floor type meets another, and any stairs. Accurate numbers matter because the final quote depends on them. Order too little material and you wait on a second shipment. Order without a sensible allowance for cuts and you can run short on install day.

Along with the tape measure, expect a look at what's under your feet right now. Is the existing floor flat? Is there tile that has to come out, or can a new floor go over it? Are there signs of moisture? Those answers change the plan, and it's far better to find them at an estimate than on install day.

Samples, brands and choices

Tell us which types you're considering, or tell us how you want the room to feel and we'll narrow it down together. We carry carpet from Abbey, Mohawk, Shaw, Karastan and Dreamweaver, along with hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank, and tile and stone. Looking at a sample in your own room, at your own hour of the day, tells you things a store shelf can't. Desert light is strong, and a color that looks warm under showroom lighting can read quite differently in a bright room with big windows.

Things worth having ready

• A rough list of the rooms you're thinking about and what you'd like to change in each one.
• Photos on your phone of floors or rooms you love.
• A sense of your timeline, especially if you're selling, hosting family or moving in soon.
• Notes about pets, kids and who is home during the day.

What you get when we leave

Once you've chosen a product and we've measured, we can give you an exact quote. You aren't asked to decide on the spot. Take it home, compare it, talk it over with your family and sleep on it. If a number or a line item isn't clear, ask. It's your floor and your money, and a good estimate should leave you understanding what you're paying for.

If you decide to go ahead

We schedule your install, and carpet installations typically happen within a week. Our own trained crew does the work, and every installation comes with a 2-year installation warranty on top of any manufacturer warranty. If something isn't right after the crew leaves, we promptly send an installer back out to correct it. We'd rather hear about a problem and fix it than have you live with it.
