Job tag checklist
Preparing Your Home for new floors
Every job we do wears a tag. This is the one for you: what to do and when, so the crew can show up, lay the floor and leave your house better than they found it.
Your estimate will tell you which of these apply to your rooms. If a step feels like too much, say so. Most of it we can help with.

Week before
A week before
- Remove furniture and decor from the rooms getting new floors. We do the heavy lifting; we just ask that you box up the small items, breakables, and sentimental items.
- Pianos, safes, fish tanks and pool tables are yours to move beforehand. Tell us at the estimate if one of them is in the way.
- Old flooring comes out before the new goes down. Carpet, luxury vinyl plank and laminate quotes include demo of the old floor.
- Fix moisture problems first. A floor laid over a damp slab or a leaking line will not last, whatever it costs.
Day before
The day before
- Unplug electronics in the work area, and move cords and chargers out of the room.
- Clear a path from the front door to every room we are working in, so the crew can carry material without detours.
- Let the flooring settle. Materials need to acclimate to your home's temperature, so keep the house at its normal setting.
- Make sure the space is ventilated, especially if adhesives or finishes are part of your job.
Install day
Install day
- The subfloor has to be clean and even before anything is laid on it. Tell us about dips, damage or old adhesive at the estimate so it is sorted before install day.
- Expect dust. Most of it comes from demolition, and tile is the worst. We cover furniture and cabinets, but dust still travels.
- Keep kids and pets away from the work area. Our own crew does every install; nothing is subcontracted.
After
Afterward
- Expect some light cleanup once the crew leaves. Post-install cleaning is part of our premium installation package.
- Walk the floor with us. If anything is off, we send an installer back out to correct it under our 2-year installation warranty.
- Put furniture back once you are happy with the work, and call the showroom with any question about the floor you chose.
Getting ready for carpet
Carpet jobs move quickly, often within a week of ordering, so the prep list is short. Before the crew arrives:
- Remove furniture from the rooms
- Clear the small items off floors and shelves near the work
- Unplug electronics
- Clear a path to the door
If you need help moving heavy furniture, let us know when you book. For hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank or tile, the longer checklist above applies, and room times vary: a standard hardwood room takes 1 to 3 days, laminate 1 to 2, and tile 2 to 4.
